Coco and perlite are often mixed together as a growing medium. Coco peat, a.k.a. coco coir/coco pith/coco soil, is a 100% natural fibre made of coconut husks. It's a natural growing medium. Cocopeat and coir have excellent water retention and when fully saturated it still holds around 22% oxygen - Roots need both water and oxygen to thrive. Perlite is added to improve drainage, helping prevent overwatering and it increases the amount of oxygen available to the roots.
