Vermiculite is a mineral which undergoes significant expansion when heated. Well known for using as growing medium as it improves aeration of the soil, absorbs added nutrients and improves moisture retention of the soil. Many craft soils include around 10% vermiculite in their soil mix.

Well known for using as growing medium as it improves aeration of the soil, absorbs added nutrients and improves moisture retention of the soil. Many craft soils include around 5 - 10% vermiculite in their soil mix. Vermiculite can be used If you enjoy germinating seeds at home or run a flower business or horticultural business, then vermiculite is ideal for the germination of seeds. Not only is it sterile but its aeration properties combined with its water-holding capacity makes it a very suitable medium for direct contact with the seeds. Vermiculite decomposes with time to release the plant nutrients potassium and magnesium. Vermiculite is also used in reptile incubation. It's a great incubation medium for reptile eggs and also for raising the humidity in incubators. It is advisable to wear a dust mask and goggles when working with vermiculite to avoid throat or eye irritation.
